![]() The new katana was a standout, allowing me to go full samurai. I had taken a break from Dead Cells for a giant chunk of 2020 and missed out on several patches and content updates, so I got to experience Fatal Falls along with some weapons, mutations, and other goodies I’d yet to experience. Each area also gets its own musical accompaniment - both being really good, but still unable to usurp the Clock Tower theme as my personal favorite. Spoilers: You enter the Scarecrow’s den (also known as Mausoleum) by trampling his flowers.Īlong with new levels comes new enemies to slice, dice, impale, clobber, or bombard, depending on which items players have acquired and equipped in a given run. He sports a giant scythe and is extremely perturbed by any intruders that dare step through his flower garden. ![]() ![]() Speaking of the new boss encounter, The Scarecrow is a wonderful addition to the roster of top dudes. Surviving here then leads into either High Peak Castle or the Derelict Distillery. Clearing Undying Shores drops players into the new boss encounter with The Scarecrow. Should players already have the Cultist Outfit equipped, Undying Shores can also be entered from the Stilt Village and Graveyard. This will also allow passage from the Fractured Shrines to Undying Shores. There is the option of decoupling your head from your body and possessing one of the cultist corpses. In this case, players can move on to Undying Shores. Clearing Fractured Shrines will dump players into the Clock Tower unless the Cultist Outfit Blueprint is discovered and then the outfit is later purchased from the collector on a subsequent run. To explain it in the simplest terms for Dead Cells veterans, Fractured Shrines can be entered from either the Black Bridge or The Nest boss encounters. It is rather difficult to paint a picture with words that describes how the level progression in Dead Cells is structured and if you attempted to draw a diagram, it would end up looking like Charlie Kelley’s conspiracy whiteboard. These new levels are situated towards the middle of the pack. Fractured Shrines and Undying Shores provide two new palettes for the game’s randomized level creator to work with and are nestled into the branching path system that players may take on their journey to slay The Hand of the King. The showcase content in Fatal Falls is undoubtedly the pair of new environments. The Fatal Falls content is seamlessly integrated into the existing game structure in a way that makes it feel like it was always there. It expands the total level collection by two, as well as a new boss encounter. ![]() Entering 2021, the development team has readied an all-new DLC pack going by the name Fatal Falls. Lofty praise, no doubt, but Dead Cells has the goods. Depending on when you ask me, I’d even go so far as to say it is my top game of the 2010s. It finished as a runner up for Shacknews Game of the Year and was my personal favorite among all nominees. It was two years ago that French development studio Motion Twin officially released Dead Cells out into the world following a lengthy residence on Steam’s Early Access program. I might love Dead Cells more than I love my dog - and I LOVE my dog (I hope he never reads this).

![]() Operators at Bell Telephone(massive old network) used to keep their cool while being sworn at by a lot of customers for many reasons. *To the developer- I know, from personal experience as a developer and as a consultant on many games, it is very hard to keep your cool. If you do that, you will become valuable to not just the developer but also to the many people who will benefit from a better game. To do so you have to always put yourself in the position I described above when communicating to a developer. You CARE and that means you can help this and other games succeed. Treat them how you hope to be treated.Ĩ) You made it this far? Then there is hope for you. You WILL be in a state like that at some point in your life. After exhausting their bodies and minds for years of 18+hr days and nights, they are fragile(human). Not just stress, but depression, self destructive behavior and all sorts of identity disorders. ![]() There is a LOT of mental illness that begins for developers following a game release. Combine that with the miserable economics of game development and you get a hostile environment for creativity. It makes a vortex of overwhelming negativity. It will make the developer compelled to help you and you will help continue support for the game you have hopes for.ħ) A leading cause of games to be abandoned is when a few negative comments on a forum attract trolls who want to see the world burn. If you have a real issue, start it with some type of compliment or message of support. That kind of background static makes it VERY hard for developers to find and focus on the true issues. Those 5% post about 80% of the negative feedback. If you someday step up and share your own work with the greater public, I hope you get to interact with decent people and not have to deal with some petulant kid who wants to damage someone else to prove that they aren't powerless.Ħ) There are about 5%(rough estimate) of jerks on the steam forum. When you are rude or create absurd conspiracies you are smashing someone else's life. You are speaking to a person like you, but who is brave enough to risk it all in the hopes of A) making people happy & B) making enough money to keep doing it. It isn't a large studio or some tech support person. Even then, only a few are smart enough to invest that income in the support needed to sustain further development.ĥ) You are talking to a real person. Developers NEED outside help to succeed and the economics of the field do not allow for it unless the developer gets lucky and has a good game that gets early exposure to a large field of gamers. While you can fumble through programming a game by learning as you go, you cannot do the same with a company. Unfortunately, neither do most aspiring developersĤ) Most indie devs have ZERO business, marketing or PR education. Artists are very sensitive and exposed when sharing their work with the publicģ) You have no idea what courage it takes to face a manic public each day with an ongoing service product like Early Access titles. It is bad form to do so and I doubt this developer did so.ġ) Engaging in anything other than polite discourse with reviewers is unproffessional.Ģ) It is incredibly hard to remain polite when your art and livlihood is attacked with impulsive and immature comments. In that case you can petition Valve directly but your EULA that you accepted by playing the game provides the developer the ability to terminate your access at any point for any number of reasons. As the sole defender of humanity’s last government, only you can create the ultimate squad and save humanity in this turn based, tactical RPG with roguelike elements.Developers do not have the ability to block access to players who own copies of the game unless you have online accounts in the game.
