![]() Operators at Bell Telephone(massive old network) used to keep their cool while being sworn at by a lot of customers for many reasons. *To the developer- I know, from personal experience as a developer and as a consultant on many games, it is very hard to keep your cool. If you do that, you will become valuable to not just the developer but also to the many people who will benefit from a better game. To do so you have to always put yourself in the position I described above when communicating to a developer. You CARE and that means you can help this and other games succeed. Treat them how you hope to be treated.Ĩ) You made it this far? Then there is hope for you. You WILL be in a state like that at some point in your life. After exhausting their bodies and minds for years of 18+hr days and nights, they are fragile(human). Not just stress, but depression, self destructive behavior and all sorts of identity disorders. ![]() There is a LOT of mental illness that begins for developers following a game release. Combine that with the miserable economics of game development and you get a hostile environment for creativity. It makes a vortex of overwhelming negativity. It will make the developer compelled to help you and you will help continue support for the game you have hopes for.ħ) A leading cause of games to be abandoned is when a few negative comments on a forum attract trolls who want to see the world burn. If you have a real issue, start it with some type of compliment or message of support. That kind of background static makes it VERY hard for developers to find and focus on the true issues. Those 5% post about 80% of the negative feedback. If you someday step up and share your own work with the greater public, I hope you get to interact with decent people and not have to deal with some petulant kid who wants to damage someone else to prove that they aren't powerless.Ħ) There are about 5%(rough estimate) of jerks on the steam forum. When you are rude or create absurd conspiracies you are smashing someone else's life. You are speaking to a person like you, but who is brave enough to risk it all in the hopes of A) making people happy & B) making enough money to keep doing it. It isn't a large studio or some tech support person. Even then, only a few are smart enough to invest that income in the support needed to sustain further development.ĥ) You are talking to a real person. Developers NEED outside help to succeed and the economics of the field do not allow for it unless the developer gets lucky and has a good game that gets early exposure to a large field of gamers. While you can fumble through programming a game by learning as you go, you cannot do the same with a company. Unfortunately, neither do most aspiring developersĤ) Most indie devs have ZERO business, marketing or PR education. Artists are very sensitive and exposed when sharing their work with the publicģ) You have no idea what courage it takes to face a manic public each day with an ongoing service product like Early Access titles. It is bad form to do so and I doubt this developer did so.ġ) Engaging in anything other than polite discourse with reviewers is unproffessional.Ģ) It is incredibly hard to remain polite when your art and livlihood is attacked with impulsive and immature comments. In that case you can petition Valve directly but your EULA that you accepted by playing the game provides the developer the ability to terminate your access at any point for any number of reasons. As the sole defender of humanity’s last government, only you can create the ultimate squad and save humanity in this turn based, tactical RPG with roguelike elements.Developers do not have the ability to block access to players who own copies of the game unless you have online accounts in the game. In a flooded future world, killer machines are plotting mankind’s demise. Just be aware that it’s going to be a whole different kettle of fish to the last underwater adventure we take in with Maneater. ![]() Let us know if you pick it up – the comments section is below.
